About Us

Welcome to ReduceObesity.org, a research-backed foundation dedicated to combating the obesity epidemic through the latest research and innovative methodologies. Our mission is to create a positive and lasting impact on individuals and communities affected by obesity, promoting overall well-being and inclusive practices for all.

Our Aim – DRRPII:

At ReduceObesity.org, we are driven by a strong sense of purpose to address the unique challenges faced by youth and young adults with disabilities from diverse cultural backgrounds. Our initiative, DRRPII (Disability and Disparities: Reducing and Preventing Obesity Inclusion Initiative), is centered around creating a systematic approach for identifying, adjusting, and implementing evidence-based strategies and programs. Our main goal is to prevent and reduce obesity in this specific population while fostering inclusion in community health promotion programs.

Relevance and Focus:

People with physical and cognitive disabilities, particularly African-American and Hispanic youth, experience a higher prevalence of obesity and obesity-related health issues compared to the general population. Despite the nationwide attention on the obesity epidemic, young individuals transitioning into adulthood with disabilities have often been overlooked. At ReduceObesity.org, we recognize the urgency to address this disparity and prioritize the well-being of this specific group.

Our Vision and Approach:

At ReduceObesity.org, we believe in collective action and inclusive practices. Every two months, we highlight a new community-based strategy for preventing obesity. We actively invite parents, researchers, teachers, clinicians, policy makers, and members of the disability community to contribute their valuable insights and suggestions for adapting these strategies. Through open discussions and feedback exchanges, we seek to create adaptive and inclusive approaches to obesity prevention.

Expert Workgroups and Recommendations:

To ensure the effectiveness and accuracy of our initiatives, our Expert Workgroups, specializing in nutrition, physical activity, culture, and policy, carefully examine the proposed adaptations. Their thorough evaluation and collective expertise help us in selecting the most suitable and impactful recommendations. The finalized recommendations are then published on our website, serving as a valuable resource for anyone interested in creating inclusive community programs.

At ReduceObesity.org, we are committed to driving positive change and empowering individuals and communities to lead healthier lives. Together, let’s pave the way for a more inclusive and healthier future. Join us on this journey as we work towards reducing obesity disparities and creating a more inclusive society for all.
